CBD and Mental Wellness

This week let’s touch on mental wellness. There has been a lot of talk and media coverage recently about mental health and wellness. As more known celebrities and athletes share about their own struggles on this topic, awareness is finally being brought to the subject of mental wellness. This awareness will hopefully de-stigmatize mental health issues and give more people confidence and knowledge to deal with these struggles head on.

So what is mental wellness? While difficult to define, being mentally well means you are able to handle the everyday ups and downs of life and work within your abilities to be productive and contribute to your community. Two such mental health disorders that can hinder this ability to handle the everyday are anxiety disorders and depression. Both of these can make those ups and downs extremely difficult to deal with. Another sign of healthy mental wellness is maintaining a healthy balance between your work and personal life. Some of us handle this better than others and not all jobs are created equal in this way either. Working to find the right balance and having these two areas working in harmony together and not as separates is a challenge we all face. When they are out of balance we can often times feel overwhelmed and exhausted. Just being mindful of these two areas and finding the right checks and balances are important to having good mental wellness.

Tips to maintaining Healthy Mental Wellness

  • Meditation - taking time each day to meditate and purposely slow things down. Headspace or Calm are well known apps that can help guide you through meditation.
  • Practice gratitude - reflecting on what we are grateful for or even the struggles we are going through can help to bring positivity back into your life.   • Get in touch with your spiritual side - for me spending time in prayer and reading my bible each morning helps mentally prepare me for the day.
  • Get professional help - sometimes we need to call in the experts to help us work through our issues and get back on the right track, don’t feel intimidated or scared about this.

How can CBD help my mental wellness?

  • CBD can help relieve anxiety and help bring your body into a calmer state. I am personally a very anxious person and use CBD to help with my anxiety. By taking CBD oil daily and before certain meetings or events I have found it calms my nerves and brings me to better place.
  • CBD can help you sleep better at night. Better sleep means being mentally sharper and physically stronger. Taking CBD about 1 hour before going to bed helps me find that deep restful sleep.
