CBD and Social Wellness

Rounding out the circle of wellness is social wellness. Social wellness is simply having a support system of meaningful relationships. While this sounds simple on paper, finding “meaningful” relationships can be hard for a lot of us. By meaningful we want to clarify that we aren’t talking about your 5000 facebook friends.  We mean actual face to face relationships that we can share our lives with, the good, the bad and the ugly. It was reported last year that almost half of Americans feel lonely and or left out all the time*. In a time when we are supposed to be more connected than ever through technology, the opposite is actually occurring and most are feeling more isolated than ever. Having this social support system is so important to weathering life's ups and downs.

One of the reasons I believe that Crossfit has become so popular, is the community aspect it brings about. Most of the crossfitters that I know have a solid relationship with others in their gym where they support, encourage and hold each other accountable. It becomes more than a gym, but a club and family where you can find others with similar interests. There are other clubs out there that do the same thing and bring that community aspect to the group allowing people to bond over similar experiences and make meaningful and impactful relationships.

One of my goals this year is to have lunch, coffee or a drink with someone each week and more importantly, purposely inviting others that I don’t often do this with to build these relationships deeper than just surface level relationships. Intentionally trying to build relationships is hard work and takes time, but the end result will last a lifetime.

Tips to maintaining Healthy Social Wellness

  • Find a group with similar interests - this could be a religious group, an athletic group (think your local running club), a book club, a local community group, etc.
  • Unplug - take time to unplug from devices, we can get caught up in how great everything looks through the lens of social media and neglect other healthy relationships.
  • Volunteer - anytime you are putting others in front of yourself it helps to refocus on the right priorities in life and helps put things in perspective.
  • Get active - getting physically active is a great way to boost overall wellness and also a great way to meet others

How can CBD help my social wellness?

  • CBD can help relieve anxiety in social settings. As an introvert, I often times find social settings difficult and exhausting and therefore look to avoid them. CBD can help with this anxiety and make these social settings less intimidating. Often times if I know I will be interacting with a large group I will take a few drops of CBD Oil before the meeting time to help ease the anxiety.
