Cannabidiol (CBD) comes in a multitude of different forms, factors and intake methods. From tinctures, to topical creams and lotions, to vape pens, to capsules and other edibles, there are a lot of options to choose from. We will try break down the options and give you a few of the benefits of each method.
The most common of these forms is the CBD oil tincture. Typically CBD tinctures are taken by the sublingual method, which means you place the drops under your tongue for 60-90 seconds and swallow the rest after that time. This method is best for those who are sensitive to taste and allows the CBD to bypass the digestive system and quickly enter the bloodstream. This allows the CBD to interact quickly with the endocannabinoid system . One should start with a lower dosage and work toward finding your ideal dosage amount. This method and product is a favorite of the Curativ staff.
Another common form you will see is a topical salve, cream or lotion. These products are applied directly to the external skin surface and allow the compounds to absorb through the skin and work directly with the endocannabinoid receptors. With topicals, the CBD is not absorbed into the bloodstream. We have found topicals work best for isolated aches, pains and other skin conditions. We use the Curativ Recovery Salve for those sore muscles after a tough run or workout and have found it helps speed up the recovery process.
Vaping and using vape pens or tank style vape is another intake method you will see with CBD. With vaping, CBD oil concentrate or e-liquid (make sure your product is specifically made to be inhaled) is heated up, vaporized and then inhaled. This allows for a quick and sometimes an almost instantaneous result that can be discreet even in public settings. One item to note with vaping, is the risk of the heating coil in your vape pen breaking down over time and allowing traces of non-natural elements to be inhaled. There are also vaping alternatives, such as using a more traditional water pipe, but these aren’t quite as discreet as a vape pen or tank style vape. Curative is not currently carrying any products used for vaping.
The last form factor we will discuss are edibles. For now we will include capsules, infused foods and beverages into this category. Typically CBD capsules are ingested orally, they enter your digestive system and metabolize in your liver which allows for the CBD to enter your bloodstream. However, the time to enter your bloodstream and feel the effects of the CBD is longer using this method depending on your digestive system. You can also find a variety of foods and gummies that are infused with CBD in the market today. More recently, beverages are being infused with CBD, with even Coca-Cola being linked to a potential new CBD beverage product.
As the CBD market evolves, we expect to see new and innovative products enter the market. We at Curativ are always monitoring the CBD landscape and are listening to the Curativ Community as we make new products available to you.
